What is Matcha?

Japanese Matcha tea is a fine powder made from green tea leaves. Matcha is made from the tea plant Camellia sinensis. Tea cultivated specifically for Matcha is grown in two Japanese regions: Uji in Kyoto and Nishio.  Matcha comes from a class of plant compounds in tea with the health benefits of natural antioxidants.

Antioxidants help stabilize harmful free radicals that can damage cells and cause chronic disease.  We generally see Matcha Green Tea, or High grade Matcha powder.  It is highly caffeinated and should not be mixed with milk, as milk decreases the absorption of nutrients.  Matcha has a vibrant and earthy flavor.

Is Matcha Tea good for you?

Matcha tea is a type of green tea that has gained popularity due to its numerous health benefits. Matcha is higher in antioxidants, catechins, and other beneficial compounds than regular green tea.

These compounds have been linked to improved brain function, increased metabolism, and reduced risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Matcha also contains a unique amino acid called L-theanine, which is known to promote relaxation and reduce stress levels. Additionally, matcha tea may aid in weight loss by boosting metabolism and suppressing appetite. While matcha tea is generally safe, it is important to note its high caffeine content.  Overall, incorporating a cup of matcha tea into your daily routine may offer several health benefits.

What is a Matcha Mule?

A Matcha Mule is a refreshing cocktail of vodka, and matcha, ginger beer, lime juice, and mint leaves garnish.  This green tea cocktail is an interesting and fun twist on a classic Vodka Mule.  Vibrant color – Refreshing and delicious cocktail that you will love!

Does Alcohol diminish the health effects of green Tea?

You do need to be careful drinking alcohol with Matcha. Alcohol dehydrates the body and green tea may increase the diuretic effects of alcohol, which can lead to further dehydration.

Additionally, green tea contains caffeine, which may mask the depressant effects of alcohol, making it harder to tell when one has consumed too much. Consume in moderation.

It may be best to drink plenty of water while having alcohol and green tea in order to avoid dehydration. Alternatively, one could consider having green tea earlier in the day before consuming alcohol in the evening.
