Few things satisfy a sweet tooth better than homemade chocolate cake. We’ve showcased a number of decadent cakes in the past, including a seven-layer chocolate whiskey cake from Guy Fieri and a chocolate mayonnaise cake that is surprisingly delicious. However, sometimes, we just want a simple cake recipe that can be whipped together quickly — and without pulling out every bowl and appliance in the kitchen.

Fortunately, Anna, the blogger behind Crunchy Creamy Sweet, has a chocolate cake recipe that comes together in one bowl. Not only is this chocolate cake easy to make, but it will keep the baking chaos out of your kitchen.

Think of this one-bowl chocolate cake recipe as a way to get all the benefits of a from-scratch dessert with the convenience of a box mix. It promises a “rich and decadent chocolate cake” in under an hour.

Once you’ve pulled out your one mixing bowl, it’s time to gather up the ingredients for the cake. If you bake at all, you’re likely to have most of the staples on hand, such as flour, sugar, eggs, cocoa powder, vegetable oil and a few other standard items.

The recipe also calls for buttermilk, and if you don’t have that at the ready, Anna shared a handy tip on how to make your own with either whole milk or half-and-half and a little apple cider vinegar.

You will also need a whisk, an 8-inch cake pan (round or square), measuring cups and spoons, and a toothpick. That’s it! No need to drag out the big stand mixer to get the job done.

Anna also included a simple fudge frosting recipe to go along with the one-bowl chocolate cake. After all, what’s a cake without a rich layer of frosting?

Even the frosting is a snap to make! With five simple ingredients, the frosting only requires one pot or saucepan.

Now, the next time you need a chocolate cake for a weeknight dessert or even a party, you’ll have a go-to recipe that is easy and delicious.

Cakes that look almost too real to eat

These brilliant illusion cakes look almost too real to eat

The internet had a bit of a meltdown recently over videos and photos of cakes made to look like everyday items. They’re so realistic that they almost bend reality when they’re being cut into and the items are revealed as cake and icing.

After seeing these videos, we needed more, more, more, so we reached out to Natalie Sideserf, owner and resident artist at Sideserf Cake Studio in Austin, Texas. She’s one of the amazing cake artists creating this gorgeous, edible artwork. She not only told us about how she got her start, she hooked us up with photos of some of her jaw-dropping work.

Check them out!

This is the first cake Sideserf took a stab at for a friend’s birthday party. Little did she know this would be the first step in her delicious cake-making journey.

This is the bust cake that garnered Sideserf her first online accolades. Her brother submitted the cake to Reddit and it ended up on the front page of the site.

Sideserf had the opportunity to make this cake for Johnathan Banks, the actor who plays Mike Ehrmantraut on both AMC’s Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

She had a fangirl moment when Banks shouted out the cake on the late-night talk show Conan, thanking her for making it for him.

Is that… Yoda? Not quite, but it sure looks a lot like him. Sideserf had the chance to team up with bakers on Food Network’s Buddy Vs. Duff to make this hyper-realistic cake as a member of team Duff.

When Sideserf was studying art at The Ohio State University she had to draw peaches in her sketching work. It looks like a real peach on the outside, but yeah, it’s really cake.
