The mid-20th century was a wild frontier of innovation where inventors weren’t just trying to solve problems, they were trying, somehow, to reinvent the way we lived. Some of these inventions came up to be really weird.

The Mass Shaving Machine

A nineteenth century invention for a TV series called ‘Brainwaves’ 1960

 which can shave a dozen men at the same time.

Hubbard Electrometer

The E-Meter, also called  electropsychometer and Hubbard Electrometer, is an electronic device that can register emotional reactions.
You can see the founder of the E-meter L. Ron Hubbard using it to determine whether tomatoes experience pain, 1968. His work led him to the conclusion that tomatoes “scream when sliced.”
