In November 2019, an event unparalleled in modern history was announced: a “Golden Girls”-themed cruise scheduled for February 2020. It was the most glorious of mashups — the beloved ’80s show meets a cruise and open sea — what can possibly go wrong?
It had it all, and it was all Golden Girls. There was Golden Girls trivia, Golden Girls costume contests, Golden Girls bingo. There were even Golden Girls drag queens, fabulously called Golden Gays NYC ( an amazing camp troupe), as well as a karaoke party at the Rusty Anchor where nothing good has ever happened, but it sure was a whole lot of fun!
And so was the cruise.
Then March 2020 came, the world changed, and throwing a party amid the pandemic and “inviting everyone you knew” was not exactly the best idea, so plans for the next wonderful cruise were thrown out the window.
For God ‘s sake, Rose! ( cue Dorothy Zbornak voice).
But as the Golden Girls taught us, every night has its dawn. So, after two challenging years, the “Golden Girls at Sea Experience” is returns in 2021 with the celebration all fans need.
Beginning April 8, 2023, 1,000 fans can channel their inner Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sofia on the 5-night cruise departing from Miami and heading to the idyllic Key West and Cozumel, Mexico.
Shady Pines will come to life on a redesigned ship called Celebrity Summit.
Prices start at $1,000 per person for an inside stateroom, around $2,500 for a deluxe ocean-view balcony cabin, and $3,400 to $14,500 for a two-person suite.
That’s it. If you are a fan of the iconic show and want to say to your pals, “Thank you for being a friend,” reserve your spot, and of course, bring a cheesecake.
And that is the biggest gift.
