It’s called Ice Cross. It’s the fastest sport on two skates and it’s even wilder than it sounds.
A combination of motocross, ice skating and obstacle course, Ice Cross just has to be seen to be believed. But even then, it’s not all completely clear what the heck is going on.
Fortunately, Johanny “Jojo” Velasquez, Junior World Champion ice crosser, takes us through all the ins and outs of the sport and introduces us to some of the top competitors. Take Sweden’s Jasper Felder who won the very first Red Bull Ice Cross Championship in Stockholm in 2001. That race was held on a track made of ice from a local fish market ( Whee! Dangerous and smelling like fish? Yes, please!)
If you’re up for a wild ride and a better understanding of the sport, this video is a must-see. It goes from beautiful to disastrous in the blink of an eye.
