Actor/singer David Soul and actress Lynne Marta had an “open relationship” for years, and had married other people, but never married each other. In the end, they died within days of one another other. This is their story nearly one year after their deaths.
A Closer Look
David Soul was one of the most popular actors in the history of television. He starred in two hit series, made guest spots on countless other shows, and also had a Top 40 musical hit, “Don’t Give Up On Us, Baby.”
Lynne Marta was an acclaimed actress who never reached the height of Soul’s stardom, but they found each other, and fell in love, if never married.
Soul was best known for leading roles on TV’s Starsky & Hutch, and Here Come the Brides, while he made a benchmark appearance on Star Trek: The Original Series.
Marta was best known for feature films like Footless and Joe Kidd and early appearances on TV’s Love, American Style, Medical Center, and Barnaby Jones.
Soul died on January 4, 2024, in London, England. He was a three-pack-a-day cigarette smoker for five decades. Although he had stopped smoking in 2014, the actor’s health was significantly obstructed by COPD, while he also had a lung removed due to cancer. He was age 80 years old.
Seven days later, Marta (who was an earwitness to the murder of actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989) died from cancer in Los Angeles, on January 11, 2024. She was 78 years old.
Their Unique Connection
In 1983, People magazine reported that Lynn Marta and David Soul had an “open relationship.” As the article documented, “All through the Starsky and Hutch years David and Lynne lived together but spent time with other people.”
Lasting Impression
Hopefully, David Soul and Lynne Marta have each found a measure of peace beyond this world.
