Incorporating meditation into your evening routine is a simple way to support your physical, mental, and emotional well-being while sleeping and during waking hours.
It can lower blood pressure, quiet an overactive mind, help with insomnia, and produce serotonin and melatonin. But what’s the right type of meditation for you?
Scrolling through thousands of apps, social media, and YouTube videos with endless meditation types may have the opposite effect of causing indecision and overwhelm. Luckily, your astrological sign can help point you in the right direction.
We spoke with three expert astrologers who shared their thoughts on the best meditation for you based on your zodiac sign.

Aries (March 21-April 19)
Dynamic, fiery Aries are fiercely independent and always up for a challenge. They’re more apt to download an app on a whim than to read up on its features. Always on the go, Aries have a hard time slowing down.
Jillian Phyllis, astrologer, suggests a progressive muscle relaxation technique focused on tensing and then relaxing each muscle in your body, starting from your toes and moving upwards.
“This will allow an Aries to expel any energy their body is holding while helping them move into deep relaxation for sleep,” she says.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)
If there was an award for the sign with the best self-care routine, Taureans would have as many wins as Meryl Streep has acting nominations.
Ruled by Venus, they gravitate towards pleasure, comfort, and luxury. However, this sign tends to overwork so they may have issues carving out time for sleep meditation.
A practice that focuses on “me time” and is less task-oriented will help recharge them. Taureans should look for a sleep meditation where they can relax and let go, suggests Wendy Rosenthal, executive coach and applied astrologer.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)
There’s a reason why Gemini means “twin” in Latin. The social butterfly of the zodiac signs, Geminis often have their hands in many cookie jars at once and could use a body double to juggle their busy schedules.
Their diverse interests and social activities can lead Geminis to burn the candle at both ends. Rosenthal recommends Geminis look to a consistent sleep meditation to help simplify their lives. “Seek out a practice that focuses on one thought or sound,” she says.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Mystical, elusive, and intuitive describes this highly-sensitive sign. All that feeling can overwhelm a nervous system, causing a crustacean to retreat into its hard shell. Cancers can benefit from soundscapes to unwind and disengage from other people’s emotions.
”As water signs, Cancers will love to fall asleep to the sounds of rain, waterfalls, or ocean waves and be immersed in the noises of a place outside of the home where they can remove themselves from reality,” says Phyllis.

Leo (July 23-August 22)
Lights, camera, Leos! Lovers of the spotlight, this sign likes an audience, attention, and drama. They’re also loyal and dependable friends marked by their infectious and sunny optimism.
While they like to travel in packs, Leos need a meditation type that focuses on things outside of themselves to keep them grounded and let go of any competition or ones that help them appreciate what they have.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)
Lifelong learners, Virgos love order, research, and cultivating a sense of calm. They can also be hyper-critical of themselves and others.
Letting go of the need to achieve is essential to their well-being, so they should skip the motivation meditations and schedule guided relaxation journeys to alleviate stress and burnout on their calendars.
Ten-minute mid-day resets would also work well for this uber-productive sign to train their minds to slow down in the evenings.

Libra (September 23-October 22)
The sign of the scale represents Libra’s quest to achieve balance and harmony in their lives. They also create and find beauty everywhere.
“Happiest when they keep the peace, Libras appreciate when others validate themselves,” says Phyllis. She recommends daily affirmations before bed to tap into self-power and self-love.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
Mysterious, intense, and courageous, Scorpios quietly strategize how to get what they want and are often hard to read. They’re at their best when they focus on forming deep bonds with their inner circle.
Phyllis recommends a self-pleasure routine before sleeping that will “allow them to practice their reclamation of who they are while also relaxing their body into a state of bliss before sleep.”

Sagittarius (November 23-December 21)
Flexible, passionate, and inquisitive Sagittarians are defined by their pursuit of knowledge and wanderlust. They crave change and have the innate ability to adapt to new situations and environments. Because they’re easily bored, they can be impulsive and be ready to move on to the next thing quickly.
“Sagittarians are inherently adventurous and intellectual, making guided meditations that involve mental excursions appealing,” explains Sidhharrth S Kumaar, chief astrologer and founder at NumroVani.
As for a specific meditation type, Kumaar suggests this: “Imagining traveling through a tranquil forest or mountain range can help people relax. Affirmations encouraging calm and contentment and guided meditations on gratitude and pleasant day observations can also be helpful.”

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
Underneath a Capricorn’s steady determination and resilience is someone who can abandon their inhibitions and be the unexpected life of the party. To see this earth sign let loose, they may need help relaxing.
Kumaar recommends “reducing tension with progressive muscle relaxation, body scan meditations, or relieving meditations with affirmations for balance and relaxation.”

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
Aquarians feel innately connected to nature and their environment. These creative creatures value community, connection, and being a changing force for good in the world. They’re visionaries who see the big picture, so focusing on smaller details can be difficult.
“Aquariuses like creative imagination and imagery meditations,” says Kumaar. “Guided meditations through imaginal and peaceful landscapes can be captivating, like focusing on a floating cloud or feather. Peace and relaxation affirmations can also help.”

Pisces (February 19-March 20)
The most sensitive and empathetic sign in the zodiac, Pisces feel their way through life. They need to be mindful of not being overwhelmed by their emotions and can use meditation to help them stay grounded.
“Pisces need a mediation type that helps them connect to and feel their inner self,” says Rosenthal. Kumar adds that “guided meditations with relaxing music, especially those with water sounds or visuals like gentle rivers or ocean waves and visualizations of their intuition and inner self might soothe them.”
