People take fried chicken real serious, y’all.
Now, I’m from the South, and we are born knowing that there are some things you just don’t mess with. High on that list is fried chicken. Just don’t (and yes, that is a Julia Sugarbaker-level polite southern suggestion / life saving tip).
Actress Paula Patton is not from the South, bless her heart, so she didn’t know. She thought posting her mom’s recipe for fried chicken was going to be cool. Fun! You know, sharing!
She was….um, wrong. She was very, very wrong.
The ever vigilant internet was not kind. They ripped it apart, in fact, and, frankly, they were not entirely wrong to do so.
It is an unconventional recipe (I’m as shocked by mid-fry seasonings as anyone) and her technique might have been questionable (she didn’t wash the chicken long enough was the big complaint, but there are many who don’t wash it at all…but not me. I totally wash it. Every time.) so there were mistakes made, yes, but the public was ruthless.
And persistent.
So, Patton took the time to respond in the Instagram post below, and this time… she’s perfect. She is the essence of understanding and non-judgment. She takes it all in, hears it, validates it and returns wishes for peace and love. Just pure class.
Hmm. Maybe she is a little Southern after all.
